Copyright, Chagall Card, Riffs, WTH?
I am breaking with my normal posts to say this timely bit regarding copyright, and the lawsuit against Led Zep over the riff. I don’t give a toss about any of it, but the topic is under my skin. I … Continue reading

Full Moon Prayers
This last SuperMoon I set the day aside to look at intentions and directions. Too many opportunities are not always good, and can dilute the path. Making choices are important, even if you change your mind. The boat can’t be … Continue reading

Publishing the Darker Artwork
This post is a dialogue with other artists, and two other bloggers. Many people do not think of art as a dialogue and commentary. I hope they will not mind me co-opting a few lines from their blogs; I encourage … Continue reading

My Loverman
In all this waiting-for-kidney-stone maladies to heal (the surgeon tore my ureter) I have been creating a healing journal. I’m not sure I can share it in its entirety, but will at some point share within my comfort zone. It … Continue reading

Booby Gurl is Coming Home to D.Katie Powell Art
I’ve made a hard decision during this Dark-of-the-Moon. Previously I set up a second blog that was dedicated to my love of working with Lunar energy. Lunar Moondae was also home to my Booby Gurl images. After a great deal … Continue reading

Weeping Buddha, One
I fell in love with Balinese Buddha when I first saw him. The monks carve them as meditations. Mine has been on my altar for 20 years, and has a beautiful patina from being held. People call him Humble Buddha, … Continue reading

Motherwell, Must Read
Two years ago, for the first time, I steeped myself in learning technique as a shortcut
with watercolor. My editor soon became in charge of my paintbrush.
When I first wanted to paint, over breakfast at the West Beach Cafe I asked
Billy Al Bengston whether I should go back to school for a MFA. He said, “Do you want to paint or teach?” and advised me to take the money I’d spend on college and take the
time off and buy cheap paint and canvas and go to it. I took his advice at 29.
Now at 60 it is time to unlearn and go back to my own screwy sense of whatever I want to play with and not think about being technically correct. It took me two years to undo what technical drawing did to me as a artist. Let’s hope this time I remember the path. Continue reading →
