Update, before you read: Out of the blue Pentalic responded to a letter from ages ago. They worked on the books and felt the problem was solved. They comped me two books. I told them they should’ve said that they realized there were problems early on and the bad review would not have been written! The book is just a bit bigger *yay* than before and I have opened it fully and thought they might have fixed it. But it popped open the second time I opened it! So I cannot say this journal is good even now.
I want to love it. An Oregon company….
I hate to give a bad review, but the Pentalic Aqua Journal is such a disappointment.
I like the paper, and love the smaller landscape size of roughly 5×8-inches,
but damn they apparently can’t make a journal that doesn’t fall apart.
I also got nowhere discussing this with them.
Further, they are an Oregon company and I’d like to support them, but I can’t.
I will have to move to Moleskin or some other A5 landscape journal.
Two for two, fell apart when first opened,
less than a days use!!! I had to tape or glue…
I wish I could just glue, but the glue won’t take the
“abuse” of months of sketching and watercolor. So I glue and then tape.
Botched the first book, but the second I did a better job of it.
Phooey that I must do it at all!

Yes. Others have not had this issue and yet, I am nto hard on my books…. I don’t write bad reviews unless it is a consistent problem.

Yuk! That does not look good. I have heard this happens. I have one in my stash of books. It will be interesting to see what happens. I am somewhat rough on sketchbooks!

Hopefully no issues. Many have had success with them.

Yes. The first time it was a bummer; now I’m annoyed. I’ve written them….

Oh, I’m sorry two have failed on you. 😦 I have one that looks like this model that I’m using now. I’m about halfway through it and knock on wood it’s holding up well.
I hope you have better luck with the next journal.

So glad yours is holding up! I think if it had happened after me beating it around I’d be less annoyed, but this happened both time during the first painting….

I would be really annoyed as well. Poor customer service is at the top of my list these last two weeks too. I received a used watercolor palette and the company is blowing me off. I’m not a happy camper about it, and planning my next move…it may be all I can do is write a bad review about the company and move on.
I’m looking forward to hearing how you like your next journal though.
