Our Virtual Sketchwalk group on Facebook visited Croatia, and the island of Hvar. I chose to sketch St. Stephen’s Cathedral, located at the eastern end of the city square of Hvar.
The eight-hundred year old cathedral is a blend of Early Baroque and Renaissance styles. The Heidentürme (Heathen Towers) are what remain of the original 13th century structure, as the cathedral has been rebuilt several times.
I found a video of the bells ringing on YouTube, located at the end of the post!
I began with a light sketch using a Pentalic HB woodless pencil. (Anyone who says not to use pencil is not using all their available tools, though occasionally I sketch using ink only.)
Inked sketch using an EF Platinum Carbon pen with Platinum Carbon waterproof ink cartridges.
Pentel Aquash waterbrushes with diluted De Atramentis Urban Grey ink
allowed me to lay in some shadows early, both in the building and in the palms. Love me some palm trees!
Finally, watercolors pop the building from the lush surrounds.

That came out really good! I have to dig out my Platinum Carbon fountain pen. It probably needs washing out by now. It’s been ages since I last used it.
Do you have this group anywhere besides FB? It sounds fun and challenging, but I’m not on FB and don’t plan on being on it in the future.

I use my Platinum Carbon pen daily… It is such a great pen.
I wish I could tell you yes about the group, because it is one of the few things that keeps me on FB. If I could figure a way to do it somewhere else I would, but IG is just not the same thing. Suggestions?

WordPress blog, Instagram, and Flickr are the only other places I can think of.

You know, you could join and just not participate in the whole FB thang.

I don’t know if that’s possible. I can’t look at posts if I am not a member.
Whenever I try I am always told I have to sign up to view anything.

Actually I am saying join, but don’t bother to participate in anything else but the Virtual Sketchwalk page. We have a few people who do this. They ignore the rest of the bs and just use it for their own sketching fun.

I’m not going to do that. I’m already on Instagram and that’s all I’m interested in joining.
Maybe one day you’ll add Instagram or Flickr to your sketchwalk?

Let me think about how to do that. The biggest issue is that I don’t want the trolls and so forth — it can’t be private — so not a safe space.
