Santa Candy Container

Mitchell has memories of his Mom’s ceramic Santa filled with Christmas candy.
Santa’s looking much bedraggled (loved) but I restored him to his glory for the image.

HO HO HO!

I also discovered that you cannot mix honey based paints (MGraham) with
non-honey based paints — as least not with Da Vinci!  Odd separation!
*** Update:  I tried other mixes last night and this may not be true!
Flummoxed as to why this happened!***

HAPPY SANTA DAY!

Thanks for sharing this Katie, because I think it’s fascinating that you had trouble mixing MG & DV paints. I have used MG for years and never had trouble with their mixing with any other brands – DS, WN, Holbein, etc. However, I only recently added DV to my palette and no longer use MG. (Okay except for MG Sap Green green which I just can’t give up.) I wonder if it’s the gum arabic in DV that MG doesn’t like and vise versa? Or maybe the colors… what reds were you using? May have to do some experimentation!

    • I also tried to mix a few others to get that same separation (greens, blues) — and didn’t! The reds I was using were MG Quin Red and DV Rose Dore. Possibly something was sitting in my mixing area that I didn’t notice? I am publishing my travel palette changes tomorrow, part one — so many changes — and part two will talk about other palettes and brands! But I am holding off on the Schminke. I don’t like their paints…. Love Da Vinci and like MGraham.
