So cheery! So life affirming —
Happy little faces that pop up year after year.
Edible, they are lovely tossed
onto the top of a summer salad; Surprise!
So many variations in color, from pale white with a tinge of purple, to bright cobalt blue-violet, to snappy orange!
They remind me of my mom…
These guys were a little overworked but I still like them…
A lesson in not having enough of the background wet so the colors ran properly.
But ooooh, pretty colors!

We love these little guys. They pop up in the oddest places, but we mow the “lawn” (that green area around the house) around them.

I am not familiar with the term Johnny Jump Up. Are they a type of pansy? I am an incompetent gardener but I saw your paintings and thought of pansies. I love the bold colours you’ve used and the way the bleed of the pigments suggests soft petals.

Hi Laura! No, pansies are a bit different, and bigger; these are closer to a violet. They come in many colors, even very pale colors.

I’ve tossed them on many summer salads. They don’t have the taste that a nasturtium bring with it but they aer so pretty!

I’ve had nasturtiums in a salad, but I think I put too much dressing on it, couldn’t taste much lol

They should have a peppery bite — a bit like a radish, but not.
