May Sketches, Cinco de Mayo

W15 5 1 MAY SKETCHBOOK 001 copyMy month of fake journaling has come to an end, and sadly (in terms of sharing) my next projects is top secret.  Someday I’ll post it, but not for a LONG time.  I am participating in a month long challenge called Everyday in May (EDM), though this year the suggestions have been uninspiring so I may not keep up.  Challenges have to be fun and interesting!

W15 5 1 MAY SKETCHBOOK 004 copyHowever, an Italian artist is also doing a challenge too, and we can play along with her — and I am making EDM more interesting by doing hers too.  She suggested an event in May, and that is how the Eames Chair came about, above.  Mitchell and I met and married in May, and May is very very special, proof that your world can change in an instant.

W15 5 2 MAY SKETCHBOOK 001 HURLBUTFrom my hometown, Mary Hurlbut took this image in her backyard
macadamia nut tree, and was kind enough to let me use it for a sketch.

W15 5 4 MAY SKETCHBOOK 001Herbs and curtains were on order.  (Curtains, really?  Boring.)  We have NO curtains,
hate ’em unless they are those kitschy 50’s kitchen curtains, but we do have tassels!

W15 5 5 MAY SKETCHBOOK 001Something hot.  Okay, that is my husband.  And I am stinking lousy at portraits.

W15 5 5 MAY SKETCHBOOK 002Last but not least, something with a shell.  I have one of those silly pencils with
many colors lead and decided to play with it on this one.

Drawn in an Pentalic Field Book (using it up, not that fond of them)
with Pentalic HB woodless pencil, LYRA watercolor graphite pencil,
various pens and with De Artramentis Document ink, Super5, Noodlers ink
and Daniel Smith, QoR, and Holbein watercolors.

  1. Glorious. I have a tassel like that in pink. It’s a big one, too. Tassels are really “in” now. Love all of your bits and pieces here – especially the colorful veggies and your hottie hubby with guitar. Cheers!

I love the macadamia tree sketch; lovely and loose with the leaves curling and hanging so as to look 3 dimensional.

Your husband is sitting back all relaxed with a satisfied look on his face that says, “Of course I am hot. Too true.”
