A Trip Through PSU’s Farmer’s Market: Lobster Mushrooms

W14 8 17 LOBSTER MUSHROOMS 2 copy

The mushroom stall at the entrance to PSU’s Farmer’s Market is always so tempting.
I love mushrooms, and have tried most that I’ve seen at the market.
Lobster mushrooms have the bright (seriously this bright) orange
which is why I thought they were called lobster —
but they also have a slightly fishy taste similar to shitake shrooms — or so I think!

I am loving my new Stillman & Birn book!  Daniel Smith and QoR watercolors!

Sometimes I just paint food. Lobster Mushrooms are so beautiful! I like them sliced and sauteed with a sweet onion, chopped garlic, and a little wine or sherry. Grilled steak or roast chicken to go with!

Wow these are so beautiful I love how you describe the flavours…I have found some mushrooms to be fishy too…and we cook them similarly too! They are suppose to have so much food value…. When I was young I never liked them…it was a real acquired taste for me as was Lobster…however I LOVE them both now!!

Wow, so pretty! Love these colors! And I totally thought they were flowers. We got a huge orange mushroom at the market once, I think they called it “chicken of the forest” because it had substantial meat like chicken. Maybe this is the same one, but I don’t know! Great style!
