I’ve never been good at portraits… Of course, they were not my interest and you can’t get good at what you don’t practice. And BTW, I’ve been stuck creatively. Just not able to get excited about sketching.
Kelsey Pfendler caught my imagination and heart. Mitchell and I followed her progress, checking on her morning and night on Instagram. And finally, she got me sketching again, and I had to sketch HER.
I wrote down a couple of the things she said at the end, my best as I was trying to write fast from IG:
“Try to find your own big, hard scary thing. You might not think that you are strong enough to finish it, but you’re definitely strong enough to start it, and you’ll find everything else along the way.”
“It’s motivating to think maybe one day I will get to see another woman work even harder to do what I did and it would be so special to watch.”
I hope she is okay with me taking a screenshot of her on her boat to use as my model. Hey, maybe I’ll start creating portraits!
