Sometimes I start with color…
I think color will be enough, because I am mad for color…
But color is never enough.
There is the line, and it has a lot to say.
Because you can’t read my handwriting:
Playing with color is intuitional.
You have to let go and trust your instincts.
When you are learning there is that time when you are doing this or that
because a techniques been taught, but then at some point,
there is the medium, the materials, and you playing
following the color the line….
And you set the editor / student / critic aside
and let go into that moment.
You don’t know what will happen.
It is scary, exciting, thrilling, fun, and time is no where.

That annoying loud-mouth editor/critic in your head? GONE! How great would that be?
This is art and yet its an expression of emotion right?

Absolutely. In fact, I am a tonglen practitioner, and when I have to send out an antidote for a horrer I cannot fathom, I often simply see the image of a sunflower. Strong, joyous, survivor. An aw, thank for the repost I just noticed!

While my watercolor is not nearly as fluid or sophisticated as yours, Kate, I also work in layers. I usually start with a pencil drawing then add water color, etc. I will either redefine or enhance the original lines after that. Your work always amazes me.

OH NO, not sophisticated or fluid crazywoman! Your work is wonderful!
Pencils get a bad rap… I love them.
I rarely start with color… which is why I think I wrote a bit about it.
Thank you for the compliments. xoxo

I do the exact same thing almost every time. I think to myself, I’m going to just use watercolors, but every time I end up adding detail with a fine-liner. I can’t help myself! Happy PPF!

Oh yes… and my husband thankfully does too. When we got together, we donated all the old dishes from previous marriages (RIP) and we’ve been collecting a mish-mash of what-ever-color grabs us dishes since and they are all so different but all bright so they all go together!

That sounds like a fun assortment of dishes. How can you not love to cook and eat with them?
