Last month’s Every Day in May challenge, and my requiring no pencil, has a hold over in that as I am stressed and busy I continue with just a sketch of anything I pull out of the bag of images, grab the ink water-brushes, and have at it. Wonky is fine, just getting a sketch down every day, keeps my hand in it and relaxes my mind away from the stresses.
Each one is a mini exploration of color and linework.
Some turn out lovely, like this contour drawing of the Marigold.
That is always a nice surprise! But even the ones that I didn’t like to begin with, I end up seeing in a different light when I post them altogether, like the Bells at the top.
St.John’s Wort, sunny and bright!

What beautiful pieces! I really believe in the sketch every day spirit. I don’t, but I do believe it’s how you get better.

Love your cone flowers, and the marigolds! I always have trouble with the foreshortening the pedals and leaves. Maybe one day it will kick in and I’ll get better at it.

One trick in a touch image if you have a photo of it is to draw over the image and see how the edges really look when forshortened. It is all very no-no but I think it is a good learning tool!
