I’ve been doing a lot of drawing lately, ink mostly. I decided to try creating
a photocopy of my drawings and water-coloring them. I could not use heavy watercolor paper because my copier bends, but gave it a go with 100lb paper.
Coloring a drawing is different from drawing toward a watercolor, and much
more like using a coloring book — albeit one I made. Sketching toward a watercolor is less detailed, looser, and leaves lots of room for the watercolor to tell the story.
I am not so happy with the results.
What do you think?

Love the colors and the edges where they bleed.

Thank you. I’m not sure about “coloring” drawings — maybe I should make a coloring BOOK!

Kate, you had the feeling you were coloring. That is what we see – a colored ink drawing. Which is really nice!!! But I understan your doubtful feeling. Since you made copies, you could try differently. Color adds a total new dimension, it adds the real world, the emotions. Susannissima said she liked the bleeding edges. I agree. Because there you leave the restaints if the drawing. You could try more versions, trying to do just that – leave the restaraints of the drawing and try to express in color what you feel on the emotional level. Turn off your head, let it bleed, don’t fill all spaces, let your color flow with your feelings. I have seen you do it before!

I actually like both versions – the clean lines that showcase details, and the vivid colors that add a sense of excitement
